Gordon & MacPhail Glenury Royal 1984 (Private Collection) 70cl

$624.00

Product Details:

A private bottle of Gordon & MacPhail's release of a Glenury Royal whisky.

Glenury Royal was established in 1825 by Robert Barclay and named after the glen that cuts through the Ury area near Stonehaven. Its early years were marked by hardship. Only weeks after opening, a fire tore through the site, destroying stores of barley, the kiln, and parts of the malting floor. Soon after, tragedy struck again when worker James Clark lost his life in a boiler accident.

Following Barclay’s death in 1854, the distillery changed hands and was sold at auction to William Richie in 1857.

Glenury Royal’s maltings were closed in 1968, although spirit production continued for nearly twenty years afterward. Operations were eventually suspended on 31 May 1985, and in 1992 the decision was made to end whisky production permanently. The distillery buildings were sold the following year, with part of the site later converted into residential apartments.

Please note: the bottle is missing its bottom holder and there is slight creasing to the label.
