The Cargill is a pioneering fusion of single cask whiskies from Scotland and New Zealand, created in honour of William Cargill who led 350 migrants from Scotland to Otago in New Zealand in 1847. Born in Edinburgh in 1784, he rose to the rank of Captain in the 74th Highland Regiment before marrying London actress, Mary Anne Yates with whom he had 17 children. Renowned for his red hair and tenacity, he succeded in founding Otago's principal sicy of Dunedin, which is the Gaelic translation for his home town of Edinburgh. His name is remembered throughout New Zealand, in particular by the town of Invercargill and Dunedin's Mount Cargill. His monument can be found on the city's Princess Street.
